IELTS General Writing Task 1 – Noise Complaint Letter

Your neighbor’s dog has been making loud noise at night. Write a letter to your neighbor to address the issue.

Model Answer (Band 8–8.5)

Dear Mr Smith,

I am writing to politely bring to your attention an issue that has been affecting my sleep over the past two weeks. Your dog has been barking loudly almost every night, particularly after midnight, which has made it extremely difficult for my family and me to rest properly.

I fully understand that pets can be unpredictable, and this is certainly not a personal criticism of you as a neighbor. However, the continuous noise has begun to impact my work performance and overall well-being, as I need to wake up early each morning.

I would sincerely appreciate it if you could look into the situation and consider possible solutions, such as keeping your dog indoors at night or arranging additional training. I believe this small adjustment would greatly improve the comfort of everyone living nearby.

Thank you very much for your understanding and cooperation. I hope we can resolve this matter in a friendly manner. Maintaining a peaceful environment would be highly beneficial for the entire neighborhood.

Yours sincerely,
Mino
