The Evolution of Human Navigation
Long before maps, compasses and satellite positioning became available, humans had to find their way through landscapes using information supplied by the environment itself. Early travellers could not rely on a fixed technological system, so they learned to recognise rivers, mountains, coastlines, the position of the sun and recurring patterns in the night sky.
